Simple question: Is the front of an NP 208 supposed to be sealed to keep fluid out of the tranny to transfer case adapter?

I realize there is a gasket between where the flanges of the tranny and transfer case come together. But It seems NTOLERANCE is saying they are both sealed, but bt83rc is saying they are open to each other. So which is it I pulled a 208 from a NP 435 that I'm putting in my truck, and also the 208 from my current 727. Can't remember if the 208 from the manual leaked out the front when I pulled it out, but the auto 208 did for sure.
