Hi,
my name's Dan, from SoCal...
Ive got a '78 D150, city utility orange, 318, 2bbl, 727, no options. Bought it for $900 from the first owner last year, with 200k miles on it... nothing has ever been done to it, other than the occasional oil change (which the previous owner PROUDLY stated was every 10 or 15k miles).
I actually only got it to work on my house, and chase parts for other car projects... but somehow it became my daily driver.
it's giving me 18mpg average, seems to gladly go 80mph on the feeway, hasnt had any problems other than the fuel gauge no longer working, and starts within a second of turning the key- even after sitting for a week...
cant ask for much more, for the price...
I build/paint cars (mostly 50's style customs) out of an old barn on my property, as my primary income... also do computer programming contracts, and the occasional construction job when times are slow...
also have a '55 plymouth belvedere mild custom, and a couple older project cars...
plans for the truck are:
paint it gunmetal (cant take that orange color anymore), lower it (more for performance/handling than anything...), 17" CHP crown victoria steel wheels w/beauty rings, this enormous set of anti-sway bars ive got sitting here, rebuild the front-end, new weatherstriping, fix the fuel gauge, and keep driving the hell out of it. It's sound mechanical-wise, but may rebuild the motor and trans this winter (keep it stock)... the paint/suspension will be done in a month or so...
yeah, i know... it's on UGLY truck...
