On my 78 Trail Duster I have the factory 440. Not long ago got new plugs and wires but its stalling out around town at stop signs and a when putting it in gear etc. Not all the time but when it does its hard to get it to restart.
It has a metal I think factory fuel filter and I think it might be the problem. Suggestions? Just replace it and see what happens? I have no idea how old it is. Truck runs fine on the freeway and at medium to high RPMs.

Effects of fuel restriction get worse at higher engine demand. It doesn't sound like a fuel issue to me. That being said, a filter is dirt cheap and very easy to replace.

bad ground would cause your problems as would a bad coil
