All it takes is a little cutting and trimming. I'm not finished yet but I'll post some more pictures as I make progress. I cut the bottom flange off and then used a grinder to smooth it out and make bottom part of the bracket flush with the raised section that the shackle bolts to. I have a little more trimming and grinding to do so both sides are even but that's really just for eye candy, as it is now the shackle will swing at least 180 degrees before contacting the bracket. I have some 3/8" thick steel plate that I still need to cut the remaining pieces out of. Probably get them laid out tomorrow but am going to be busy with other stuff over this weekend and the next week so might not make much more progress until next weekend.

That is almost identicle to what I am doing for the rear flip, accept I cut the mount off just above where the shackle bolts to the mount, I was thinking then I could just weld a plate to the back and then flip that part over weld it on and brace it from the top... I'm probably the only one who knows what I'm talking about. I'll take some pics of it when its done.

Looks like it'll work. I saw a guy on pavementsucks.com do a shackle flip similar except he just cut a slot in the bottom of the hanger and hung the shackle through that. He didn't have much room for the shackle to move, but he was proud of it.

Why not just put a front mount on the rear?

Because you don't get as much lift like that...

If you use the late 70's to mid 80's chevy (4x4 only) bracket you can get around 6".

I have plenty of steel to make a full set of brackets from scratch but I just wanted something quick and relatively easy. The only thing I am doing at this time is removing the block and doing a u-bolt flip to get rid of the rock-grabber shock mount, not looking for lift. This bracket will likely get replaced when I go to longer springs and longer shackles, probably build a new front mount for the rear spring as well. I'm certain this will work quite well in the interim, as I said the shackle will rotate at least 90 degrees each way without any contact. If I actually get it to do that on the trail then I've broken something.

The right way to do it would be toss the rear hanger, replace it with the front one (about 4" lift if you leave the block in), then get an 80's chevy rear spring front hanger for the front, which will give ya 3 more inches. 7" with block or 4" without block quick and easy.

That would be quick and easy, I must be wrong tho, because I thought I heard that if you take the rear hanger and replace it with the front one you only get a couple of inches of lift, not 4. I must have heard wrong somewhere along the lines...

You should only get half of the rear shackle length....with no front modifications.

There used to be a topic about it but its gone now. There were a few people who said if you line up the holes correctly it'll net you 4" with the block in, or .5" to 1" with the block out (depending on what size block you have).

hey guys just wondering if you have any updates on the shackle flip ? my freind has a 83 RC and would like to do a shackle flip on it. how much can you drop the rear of the spring before you start having problems with pinion angle?

when i did my shackle flip using the front hanger i was only expecting to get about 2 inches of lift, i ended up with almost exactly 4 inches of lift instead. alot will also depend on if you use your stock shakles or not, if oyu go to a chevy shackle it will give oyu even more lift

Which holes did you line up? I used the stock shackle with the front hanger, lined up with the bottom two holes, and I'm not sure I got any lift. 2" max. I'm gonna get a real measurement later.
i used the bottom 2 holes as well, did oyu remove the block? if so then you will see very little lift
