how do i install cam bearings?w/out the proper install tool

i can tell you a way that will work, but not totally recommended, even though i have seen a few people do it, including myself, and have never had any problems.harvester said:79 -318

....any ideas? ....i have never installed cam bearings .
you will need a piece of 1/2 inch all thread rod, some 2 inch washers, say 10 of them, and the nuts to fit the all thread(four of them)
place two of the nuts on the all thread and lock them together so the will not turn. place half of the washers on the all thread, slide all thread into block, place cam bearing over all thread, place remaining washers on all thread, place other nuts on all thread. line up cam bearing against bearing it is to replace making sure all oil holes are in proper position, start tightening nuts on all thread. the washers will pull other bearing into place, while new bearing presses old bearing out
it is a cost effective way to replace cam bearings for those of us who cannot afford $500 for a cam bearing tool

The tool is usually around $200 to $300, i wouldn't even do it without it, but if you do make sure you lign up the oil galleys perfect or you're gonna need a motor

how about renting the tool from checker, Autozone, or Pepboys??
