How can you tell if you have lock up or non lock up on the tranny? What is the difference? Will a transpak make a difference?

If I wanted to have overdrive, what would have to do?
It is an 84 with the 727

Thanks

You can tell if it is a lockup when driving. If, after it shifts into drive, the rpms drop again, you have a lockup (should occur between 35 and 55 mph, usually right around 40 on my truck...depends on throttle position/load)

For OD, either Gear Vendors or swap to a newer OD tranny. If you have a 4x4, swapping to a newer OD tranny is going to be a PITA (new T-case, front axle, steering, driveshafts......)

u wouldnt need a new front axle or steering, and there may be adapters for ur 208, but a 241 is better so id put that in anyway.

Wow, this is one of these rare things I do know!

The surest way to tell on both the 727 and 904 tranny as to whether or not it's a "lock-up" is by the input shaft. On the non lock-up, the splines will come all the way out to the beveled end of the shaft. On the lock-up, there is a machined, polished end on the last .75" of the shaft (no splines there).

i could see a need for new axle and steering if he insisted on using a 94-up dodge ram tranny and t case.

but dont forget that the 518 AOD was offered with a passenger drop 241 t case in late 80s early 90s ramchargers.

would be much easier than gear vendors.
