I have a 70 318 that runs good. I have to change the water pump and the intake ( bad carb, so I'm putting a 4bbl on ). I'll be changing the heads later when I find a good set ( with the right numbers ). Since I have to pull the intake and the water pump, I might as well change the cam since I'm half way their. I found that Hughes has a .489 In. and .520 Ex. cam that's on sale. Will this work with the stock heads ( besides changing the valve springs which I'm going to do )?

That Cam and head combo will not work. The stock 318 heads dont flow that well to take advantage of the cam. Also be consciece of piston to valve clearance with a long duration cam and stock pistons.

that cam is way big for a 318. look in the .430-.450 lift range with 260-270 degrees duration.
On the money 300. When I did the heads/cam/intake on the 318 in my '84 truck I went with the Summit 6900 mopar cam. The heads I put on were #302 castings.

Specifications:
* Advertised duration: 262 intake/272 exhaust
* Duration at .050 in. cam lift: 204 intake/214 exhaust
* Gross valve lift: .420 in. intake/.442 in. exhaust
* Lobe separation: 112 degrees
* RPM range: 1,500 to 4,000

installed centerline-109 degrees
lobe lift-.306"intake, .314"exhaust
valve lift with 1.5:1 ratio-.459"intake, .471"exhaust

I was afraid that, that cam would be a little TOO wild for a stock 318. I'm going to do a little looking and get a duel profile cam in .450 - .470 range. Thanks for the heads up.
