Hit up a junkyard for a '88+ alt and bracket.. The high output alts for the later trucks were 120A vs I think 90?A in the earlier trucks. The brackets are different, so the junkyard bracket is a must, but it will bolt up with no mods. Also, if the junkyard alt is no good, you can always use it for core credit. You should be able to score the alt and bracket for under $30. A new one is hefty $$$ though... The 120A I put in my '89 cost $150..

No, stock in '85 was the 65A round front.. 90 would be the hi-output option.. The later ones had the new 90A stock with the external fan, and 120A was the option..

Boymbg, if you go to any of the higher amp options, you have to run a new 8ga (or even 4 ga or bigger if you're going to have a winch or lights or anything else that uses a lot of juice) charging wire from the alt directly to the battery.. Stock wire was only 10ga and you'll burn it up.

Sorry for confusion, by stock I meant that it was a Mopar part, and an option on 1976 RC. I don't know about anything newer than a 79.

Yea go to the junkyard. i got a 120 amp one out of a van and it bolted right in. I had to modify a bracket off of a ford for it to fit, but it is bolted on.

while you are at the j/y dont ovrlook any of the mid seventies mopar "luxury" cars either. alot of the mid 70's new yorkers, newportts, and furies that had power everything had 114 amp alternators

i was quoted anywhere from $25-50 for the alternator and complete bracket assembly

Possibly.. The new Chrysler 120A alts used v belts for a few years before they went to serpentine belts. My new one came with a serpentine pulley and I had to switch it for my v-belt pulley.. It just has a nut in the middle that you zap off and the pulley comes off. However, the old-style alts (like yours) have a pressed on pulley which won't work on the new alts. Worst case you'd have to snag a pulley at the junkyard for like $5. Like I said, it's just one nut and it falls off.

With the 120 amp you still have the same 3 as what you have right now, positive and then the 2 field wires for the voltage regulator. The 4th wire is just a ground. I added a lot of wiring to mine, but that is because I have an isolator and dual batteries running now. But for the alt the only thing I added was a ground wire.
