Does this hapen to anyone else?
I let the wife use my truck to help a friend move a couch.
Truck running great - even gas mileage is better lately.
Got it back today and the header gasket is blown out.

Now to the question ... what gasket do you guys use for these?
I've heard copper gaskets were best for headers.
I spoke to a fellow at the auto part shop (he races cars on the weekend) he says he uses Red RTV silicon and it never leaks on him.

Any opinions on this?

Thanks
Rod

the old hot rodder trick is to soak them in water till they expand and then bolt them up and also get the locking header bolts that dont loosen up

I use good quality gaskets, and have never had a problem. Good headers and good gaskets should equal no leaks as long as everything is clean.

This is just my opinion, copper all the way, for the headers and the collectors. I have a set on my truck going on about 2 years now and no leaks. You`ll need to re-tighten the bolts a couple of times as the gaskets settle in but you have to do that with any header gskt. They might be a few bucks more but are worth every penny in my book.
