Trac loc is just a limited slip so you shouldn't have any problems. Find an empty area in different weather conditions to try it out if you are worried about it.

while i have been warned away from doing this same thing, alot of us need to remember that dodge offered the traclok up front in the 74-79 rc/td sno commander package.

Talk to latindodge. He has a traclock and a set of 4.56s that he's getting rid of now that we are putting a dana 60 rear in his RC.

Hi
I don't know if this is related or not, but I was told some Dodge trucks, (mine in particular, which is a 79 W150 4x4) had a full time front axle and were driven by that axle. So in other words, it was a full size front wheel drive 4x4 truck. I know on mine that if you have the transfer case in 2wd, and the front driveshaft it out, it won't go. I was told this is because it's a front wheel drive model.Well, last I checked, most full-sizes were RWD, right? Lemme know, that way I can tell if my t-case is screwed or not. Thanks

werewolf, your truck is a fulltime 4wd, it is not driven by the front axle, the reason you have no ability to move when oyu pull front shaft is because it is a fulltime 4x4.

the 203 transfer case ahs a differential in it just like an open diff in an axle, when oyu pull front shaft it is sending all power to front axle or in other words the axle with the least traction, same as a diff would if one wheel was spinning.

in order for oyu to use your truck without front shaft you must shift it into one of the loc positions

FYI-there were no options for Trac-Loc or Sure Grip in the FRONT Dana 44 during those years. Sure Grip was only offered in the 8.75" and the 9.25" rear end. When Dad and I ordered our brand new 77's...there was no option, Sure Grip or otherwise, for the front axle no matter what package you got. The Sure Grip in the front axle is not listed in the Service Manuals or the Parts Manuals. Trac-Loc and Anti-Spin were options only in the D60 and D70 rear axles. You can install anything you want in the aftermarket but as I recall there were concerns about turning the vehicle into a squirrely ride on some road conditions.:)

OHHHH..... :eek:Okay, cool{cool}. Thanks man, I was worried something went screwy with my t-case or something. So let's say that I don't want to have a full timer though. What do I do? Swap t-cases or what? Please let me know and thanks again for setting me straight on that. I thought it sounded weird too. I mean, c'mon, who ever heard of a full size FWD?? ::) 8)

to go to a part time set up there are 2 options, either swap to a part time transfer case and install manual hubs or install a part time conversion kit in the 203
