i am sure this has been covered before but here goes. i have a dana 44 front with the open differential, will it cause negative effects to put a trac lock in the front end, with the rear still open? any insight or expereince is appriciated

well i dont need the 4.56's. is there a carrier break in the 9.25 like there is in the dana 44?RAMMAN4 said:Talk to latindodge. He has a traclock and a set of 4.56s that he's getting rid of now that we are putting a dana 60 rear in his RC.
You must think it never snows hereharvester said:i have trac lok in front.....i like it ok except on snow coverd highways .i think i has too much traction ,but since you live in mo it'll be fine
FYI-there were no options for Trac-Loc or Sure Grip in the FRONT Dana 44 during those years. Sure Grip was only offered in the 8.75" and the 9.25" rear end. When Dad and I ordered our brand new 77's...there was no option, Sure Grip or otherwise, for the front axle no matter what package you got. The Sure Grip in the front axle is not listed in the Service Manuals or the Parts Manuals. Trac-Loc and Anti-Spin were options only in the D60 and D70 rear axles. You can install anything you want in the aftermarket but as I recall there were concerns about turning the vehicle into a squirrely ride on some road conditions.intenseimages said:while i have been warned away from doing this same thing, alot of us need to remember that dodge offered the traclok up front in the 74-79 rc/td sno commander package.

OHHHH.....intenseimages said:werewolf, your truck is a fulltime 4wd, it is not driven by the front axle, the reason you have no ability to move when oyu pull front shaft is because it is a fulltime 4x4.
the 203 transfer case ahs a differential in it just like an open diff in an axle, when oyu pull front shaft it is sending all power to front axle or in other words the axle with the least traction, same as a diff would if one wheel was spinning.
in order for oyu to use your truck without front shaft you must shift it into one of the loc positions

to go to a part time set up there are 2 options, either swap to a part time transfer case and install manual hubs or install a part time conversion kit in the 203Werewolfdodge said:OHHHH.....intenseimages said:werewolf, your truck is a fulltime 4wd, it is not driven by the front axle, the reason you have no ability to move when oyu pull front shaft is because it is a fulltime 4x4.

ericOkay, cool
. Thanks man, I was worried something went screwy with my t-case or something. So let's say that I don't want to have a full timer though. What do I do? Swap t-cases or what? Please let me know and thanks again for setting me straight on that. I thought it sounded weird too. I mean, c'mon, who ever heard of a full size FWD??
