I begin to think you guys here are so smart, that you can solve just about anything! Here it is.

My brother-in-law has an '86 Grand Am that has an electric fuel pump (in the tank) that won't stop running...even with the ignition turned off. Each time he turns it off, he has to pull a fuse in the fuse box to shut off the pump. I'll be darned if I can figure it out (but I'm not the brightest bulb in the dark). Any ideas out there?

Thanks!

when he shuts off car, is the fuel pump the only electrical item that is still working? if he has other electrical items still working that shouldnt be i would be inclined to think it is in the switch, if not then check the relays for the pump.

another vote for relay.

not insulting intelligence but if you dont know what a relay is, they re lil black boxes sometimes found on fire wall and sometimes found on fuse block. well sometimes they re not black. much bigger than a fuse with either 4 or 5 pins on base.
