When it is warm outside after a long drive, my fuel tank seems to build up a lot of pressure and starts leaking out of the vicinity of the sending unit. Why is it doing this and where do I start to fix it????????????

I hate driving around in a Molotov cocktail on wheels………..

If you leave your gas cap loose it will also vent the psi in the tank, but a question i have is did this just start and or is your exhaust beating on the tank?

This just started. Right after I made the first post I went to put gas in it after driving it for about 15 min. it pushed the gas cap off, out of my hand, and on to the ground as soon as I unlocked it. The exhaust is OK and the cap is the same one I've had for a couple of years. Where is the vent line? I don't think I have a charcoal canister. Where do I look? I know my old 75 Power Wagon didn't have one. This is not one of those California emissions models.

This is getting scary...

Hmm.. I also get a whole lot of pressure in my tank.. I notice a gas smell every once in a while, but I found no leaks (all fuel lines are brand new) I know emissions trucks are supposed to contain any vapor, but is the pressure supposed to build up like that?

U must get the vent hose back on the tank . wait till it vapor locks the engine u will be pissed off when that happens. WEll drop the tank and see if the vent hose nipple broke off or not , or the hose rotted off of it .

Maybe you just have a bad gasket around your sending unit. If your gas cap is the vented kind it will vent before you blow up, at least that is the theory. Vapor pressure in the tank is normal up to a point.

jay,

there is a vent line that runs into the top of the tank, has a rubber grommet on it, when i first got my rc it would leak around this grommet. might want to check this, and yes you have to drop the tank to do it.

I was hoping it wouldn't come to that(dropping the tank), but I'll do what I got to do. Thanks for all the advise, if anybody else has any other ideas, I'm still listening. I probably won't get to this for a couple of weeks. I'll let you know what I find. Until then I'll just leave the gas cap loose.
