I KNOW  that Mopar fuel sending units are not the best to start with, but since i have learned more about how bad the voltage limiter is on the cluster of this 87 with a transplanted 440 I am working on- I wanted to know  if when the limiter  fails does the fuel gauge read EMPTY or FULL.
I am bypassing the other gauges for mechanical units, but I just put 5 gallons in this truck and the fuel gauge didn’t move. I haven’t checked any wiring yet just asking in advance about the fuel gauge, thanks, Crossy

The limiter is basically an on /off switch, real similar to the turn signal flasher. I have seen them fail in both the off, and the on positions. The on positions, will often burn up the gauges, because they are getting a full 12 volts. If it fails in the off position, then the gauge will read empty, just like when you turn the key off.

5 gals may not be enough to move the sender, if the tank was close to empty.
