I've got a 77 with the full time front axle and want to convert to a 205 t'case and part time front axle. I know the front steering linkage will have to be changed and the steering box is a side mounted output shaft. My question is can a bracket be built so the box is rotated 90 degrees so the output is on the bottom and then index the shaft to the correct position or do I need the later model box?

If you wanna rotate the box like that you will need a later style box, since that is a reverse rotation box.

hey john, while you are considering this swap, i forgot to mention the other day but your tranny output shaft aint going to work with a 205.

the 203 case uses a different out put shaft length than the 208/205.

of course you could always swap the tailshaft out of a tranny that was mated to a part time case or you could install a part time kit in the 203.

there are also a couple of other sites that could give oyu info on this swap.

and if oyu want i could always toss in the steering box off of that 84 i told you you could have the axle out of.

might also consider the fact that if oyu do this swap you will have two different tire bolt patterns in front and rear. if oyu wanted we could probably work out a trade for rear axle shafts as well so you would have the same pattern all the way around.

i will be down to mom and dads again in aobut a week and a half, if oyu want to come over we can see what we can round up for you.
