I can't beleive it...all this time I thought I had a bad seal on the front of the oil pan but nope...

I was curious where the dipstick tube entered the block so I went hunting with my flashlight and saw a lot of oil around the point of entry....

the damn dipstick tube is broke completely in half and there's only about a quarter inch of the tube sticking out of the block. The top half is just resting on it. My question is how do I get that little piece of tube outta there so I can put a new dipstick tube on it? Does it just pull out? It's pretty damn hard to get to with the water pump on and didn't have anything handy that would reach down there....maybe I could just JB weld it?

Well you could try a JB weld but I don''t think it would work too well.

If you have some sticking out count yourself lucky! Mine broke off flush with the block! For easier access take your alternator off and if needed your fuel pump (if so equipped with a block mounted one). Then you should soak the tube with your choice WD-40 type penetrant.

Now the hard part. You will have to decide how to proceed. You can clamp some vise grips on the remaining bit and try twisting pulling to get it out. You can try pushing one side of the tube in (collapsing the wall) and prying it out. Some have had luck by pushing in several side of the tube to break it's grip on the block hole. Good luck. If it gets bad you might try bolt extractors. If you had a really long drill bit you could try drilling it out. I had to remove my entire front cover to get access to mine and then used a drill bit bigger than the tube but smaller than the OD of the tube (so I wouldn't screw up the block metal) It worked great. One minute of drilling and 8 hours of disassembly and reassembly. MOPAR makes a replacement tube available through your dealer or JEGS/Summit Racing.

If you drop the oil pan, you can use a punch from the bottom to tap it out

Yup if u can not get it loose from the top with vise grips a narrow pair works best .

You will have to drop the oil pan and knock it out from the bottom .

I've used a large sheet metal screw that barely threaded into the ID of the tube and used a slide hammer to pull the little piece out. That was on a tube broke off flush with the block.

I'm with TV on this one. I've used a similar method in a different situation. Just used an old thread tap. If you use a tap to thread into the broken pipe, the trick is to get the right size. Too large and it will tend to expand and increase the pressure between the pipe and the block. Put some grease on the threads of the tap so the shavings will stay in the flutes of the tap instead of dropping down into the pan. If you want another project, take an old set of vise grips ... weld on a 18 inch length of rod... add a sliding weight.... weld a stop on the end of the rod.. and you have a handy home made slide hammer.
