ok this is a stupid question but what is the difference between forged crank and cast besided 400 dollors and is there a big enogh difference to justify bying one or they othe for a daily driver
forged is a chunk of metal pressed into the shape you want [strongest method] cast is they take a mold and pour the metal in to make the shape [strong] as far as a cranks go,s forged is best but a cast crank is plenty for a daily driver / 400 - 440 ,s and 360,s had cast cranks after they dropped the HP rating after 1974
there are different forging processes too. One forges all the rod journals in a straight line then the crank is twisted to get everything in proper location. There's the non twist ones that get everything in the right place as it's forged. There's more details to it but I can't think of them now. Read about the various processes in a magazine a while back. Then billett cranks have everything machined from a solid chunk.
