Greetings.
After much aggravation I believe I have found out what was causing my 88 tbi to go crazy.
My motor would sputter cough and die, loss of power etc.  I replaced All the usual sensors etc.
finally had a friend suggest that my 8 yr battery was not functioning properly even though
It would turn over the motor and it always started. Sure enough I bought a new battery
and it has never run better. I did some research on this elsewhere and there is quite a bit
of info on old batteries causing computer problems. Passing on my findings to help others
having problems like I was

Where in the salt bed are ya? Looks like there are a few members in Mass, but it’s pretty thin up here in VT.
I get lots of questions about my 88. People look at it like it’s a ghost. Salt killed em all up here.

My son in law and I found this out when he had my 1988 W100.  We needed to move it but it had a dead battery. Jump starting the truck worked fine. As soon as he removed the jumper cables, the truck would sputter and cough and eventually die. He swapped in a good battery and everything worked great.  We were thinking major tune up before he put in the new battery. Once the charging system was in good working order all the engine problems cleared up. Good thing to keep in mind when dealing with electrical or electronic problems. Always check to see you have a good battery.
