After putting this off for many years, I finally consulted some automotive engineers and some hydrologists and we came up with a design to finally divert water from dripping on my distributor.
You can see how complex the design is, ::) but I should have mounted it a little higher.

This shot shows the results of the painstaking silicone application process.
It aint purdy but it works.
Also, after some more thinking, I have decided that this plate is an excellent spot to put some of my product decals. I can post some post decal application photos if the demand is there. :p

I knew someday that big sheet of stainless I've been hanging on to would come in handy. And she said I would never need it, won't she be surprised. Good idea, thanx.

A marvel of modern engineering. {cool}

Could you send me the cad design, mil spec sheets, and R&D timelines? How long from conception to completion? Did you have to feed the engineers? ;D

Thanks Kendall, I need to do the same to mine

thanks for the idea! i'll add that to my project list
Yea its a great idea, dont' know why i didn't think of something in the past. I use to leave my dad's truck running when i took it to the car wash. Otherwise i was sitting there cranking and cranking or pulling the coil wire out and cleaning it out.

Do you have an MSDS sheet for that?:)
Because you've now changed the watershed profile of that part of Utah, do you have to file an environmental impact report?
I contacted OSHA and the EPA and the report I got from them was silicone was an air pollutant and we will be fined and the RC impounded if found to be out of compliance with federal and state regulations...man you guys sounded like my companies health safety and evironmental guys...Any way I like your idea thaxton-

I'll try to answer all questions as best I can:
PG, I have the designs I can email you, but the design was done in Pro-E (Pro Engineering) format. The design procees was done by the highly qualified aerospace design engineers here at work, and that is the software they use so if you have that software, I will forward it to you after I sneek it past our "intellectual property" screening process.
R&D, as mentioned, took a period of "many years" as stated in my original post.
I decided not to anodize the aluminum, so I did not reference any mil spec. Had I done that, it would have been to Mil-A-8625 Rev. g
The engineer's wifes sent them sack lunches.
As far as the environmental impact study, it does not apply to me, you see, I have a Govenor's Permit.

I keep a copy of this in my glove box
ramit87: Although silicone has a low VOC content, I still used a VOC recovery system (system certified by my Gov's permit). Also, don't you be bagging on the EH&S guys, we are so un-appreciated in our annoying, but necesary tasks!
macario: The distributor is shiny because I just sprayed it with a water reppellent spray, I am relentless in my anti-moisture campain!!
;D :p

Oh man i hate to rain on parades but, if you go to an local auto parts store and get double sided door weather stripping and run it across the entire fire wall you have a water proof seal from 1 side to the other, i did this on mine after i removed the factory 1 figuring it would hold in heat well after it covered the intake most of the carb and dist and coil in snow i put the door weather stripping in and it's better than the factory seal
You run the weather stripping right along the cowl cover, or vent grate, or i'll just get a picture for you guy's
