Engine swap.

Ahhh, yet another one of those year and some change long overseas tours in which I am separated from my 83 RC. However, it does afford me some time to save up enough money for a new engine to repalce my 250,000+ 318. What I was thinking about doing was buying just a standard crate 360 and rebuiling my 727 auto trans. What my question is, will it be difficult to swap out a 318 to a crate 360, and if so, would it be any more difficult to just put in a new 440 and new transmission? Anoterh question I have, what intakes and carbs do you recommend for those engines. I am going to keep the stock-grind cam because of the warranty. Thank you in advance for your help.

For the 360, you'll need the driver's side engine mount for 360. Passenger side is the same. You'll need a torque converter for 360 (the 360 is externally balanced so the TC has weights added for this purpose). I'd go with the Edelbrock Performer intake. It is 50-state legal, preserves all mounting possibilities for accessories, and is great for stock cams. Also, the Edelbrock 600cfm AFB is a nice match. Going 440, you'll need a big-block tranny, or an adapter for the smallblock tranny, as well as whatever other mods that I have no idea on regarding the 440's. The 360 is essentially a bolt-in.
The 360 swap will be the easist the mount can be reused on the D/S you need to shim one ear with a few washers,You may want to look into geting a short block which will allow you to use your choise of cams & heads The converter can be swaped or get a ballanced flex plate(B&M),I secont the intake as I run one on my truck.
Thank you then, but just one more question: Will the engine parts, water pump, fuel pump, alternator, timing chain cover, oil pan, etc... off my old 318 fit onto a new 360?

The oil pan is the only thing that won't do. 360's are unique in this area due to it having larger diameter main journals and the redesigned rear main seal as a consequence. All the other stuff fits and works perfectly.

Oh, and the 360 harmonic balancer is different than the 318.
