This is not about my truck, but for a fellow Dodgedriver overhere.
It is a '97 Dodge Ram Pickup 2500 4x4 5.9L Cummins diesel, auto tranny, power steering.
Problem could not be solved at a dealer.
Problem is at engine idle, warmed up, tranny in Drive or Reverse and the steering wheel is turned, the engine stalls.
Also happens at low speed; when cornering the engine stalls.
Car has just been serviced at the dealer; engine and tranny checked, but the problem is still present.
Dealer cannot explain or solve this problem..

Any help would be appreciated.

i would start with the belt take it off and see if it still does it, if so check the power steering and make sure if it turns freely.

Thanks, DODGEBOYS! That site helps a lot!
We'll try to figure it out.
If not, I'll get back.

My first 2 guesses would be idle speed incorrectly adjusted or the lock-up convertor in the tranny is staying engaged. What you might want to do for some extra diagnostic help is to go to this site www.alldatadiy.com and purchase a 1 year subscription for the online service manual for that truck. Best $25(US) that your friend will spend.
will the engine stall if the truck is in neutral and the wheels are turned?

Adjustments

The high-speed idle screw is factory sealed and cannot be adjusted. Low-speed idle can be adjusted.

1. Use an optical tachometer such as Snap-on No. MT139 or MTE (Cummins tool division) No. 3377462 to read the engine RPM.
2. Bring the engine to normal operating temperature.
3. Adjust the low idle speed at the low idle speed screw. The screw and locknut are located at the rear of the fuel injection pump.
4. Loosen the idle screw lock nut. Adjust idle screw to obtain specified RPM.

LOW IDLE SPEED
With automatic transmission:
* 750-800 RPM with transmission in drive and air conditioning on.

With manual transmission:
* 780 RPM with transmission in neutral and air conditioning on. * With engine at operating temperature.

HIGH IDLE SPEED
Do not attempt to adjust high idle speed.

High idle speed adjustment screw is factory sealed.
Breaking seal will void injection pump warranty
5. Tighten the locknut after adjustment.

Problem solved.

Our local "specialists" could not find the problem. Turned out that hot idle was at 250 RPM!!!!!! With transmission in drive, engine stalled immediately.

I'm still amazed that the engine was running at all!
