is there another way to do the connectors at the fire wall other than the stock configuration, i want to totally rewire the entire under hood of the truck but i cannot find a decent donor truck with wiring to do so, i can make improvised connectors for the ecm, voltage regulator, and other connections, but am having problems getting it all through the fire wall, any suggestions are appreciated, or any one wanting to donate a wiring harness is welcome to do so, as long as it is free + shipping= shipping cost.

Whats the problem at the firewall? Are you having problems with the big black bulkhead connector in the firewall or just the harnesses that attach to it?
my harness is shot i have rebuilt it but after several fires and going bald pulling my hair out i just want to do a better set up then what is there with all new wire (all new) and i thought about using a 75amp bridge and mouning it inside of a house breaker box, that would water proof it and then run the wires through the fire wall and use standard line connectors there that way i can get to everything.or i just need a better oem wiring harness
You can send your harnesses to Painless wiring and they can redo you an all new harness to factory specs, or if you want a fully custom wiring harness, check into the Summit catalogs.

If you have a Radio Shack near you, give them a try. I've always found interesting things for wiring there including Multi-pin connectors, etc.

If you don't have a Radio Shack, you can also try wiring parts for big rigs, thru dealerships for Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner, International, etc. Many of these big rigs are put together with sometimes very simple wiring along with external turn signal switches, toggle switchs, etc.

You can send me the engine harness and I'll re-wire it for you.:)

Unfortunately, I found this in their FAQ..

*Do we custom build harnesses? Not on a single-harness basis. We have a variety of universal harnesses in stock that can fit almost anything. Call us and we can tell you which one we recommend. If you were to need a quantity of harnesses, you can contact us to submit your sample design and we can do a quotation for you.
One of their universals are nice for the basic circuits, but if you have a computer, you are SOL...You'd have to pull the whole OEM harness apart and strip out all the computer and TBI/MPFI wiring.
i found an oem at a juck yard not the best but the old man running it is well he is old and senial, so i got the under hood and under dash with firewall connector and fuse box for 14 dollars, and then i can go back and get anything i missed, he also has around 10 dodge trucks some in good shape all with small blocks if anyone is interested
when i rewired my truck, i just put a hole in the fire wall and ran flex tube thru it and all my own wires. i kept the old connector on the wall and kept the wires running to the lights and wipers. sounds like you re on the right path.
have fun. lol

Sig, if the old harnesses are still in some sort of rebuildable shape, save them and send them to me...I'll pay the shipping.:)
chump i am more than willing to send you anything i have that i can't do so email me with an adress and i will send it too ya. also have a fuse box you might be able to do something with. by the way is there an aftermarket fuse box that i can get cheaply so that i can rig it up with quick connectors?
ohh yes and does anyone have aclue as to what cause this malfuction that i had, here is what i do know i saw a spark come from my alternator, my battery isn't charging back up when running, and the starter relay became soo hot that i could not touch it. is this the alt that is the problem or somehting else?
Hey Aaron, I took a look at my truck today and your starter relay is wired up different then what i got. I'll try and get a pic for you. That might have something to do with the fire
In the mid to late 70's trucks equipped with a manual transmission used a different relay like the one below. It gets its ground through the case instead of a neutral safety switch. He can use one from an automatic but would have to hard wire a ground to the "G" terminal on the relay. As you can see there is no "G" terminal on the Manual tranny relay in the picture below.

I have a complete unmolested harness in a 90 360 auto RC that id be willing to send to ya. The only problem is between, work, a 7month old, and Spring house renovations, it may be a few weeks before i can pull it. Let me know.

Bill
thanks bill, however i have found one that i am currently istalling, however if i still need it later i will let you know, i know how it is juggling everything and good luck with the 7mnth old.
ok i now have installed my under hood harness and i still am having problems with my diagram's colors and my wires colors, so i have done my best to trace all my wires and now that i have head lights, brake lights, turnsignals on all four corners however i do not have tail lights. is there a ground somewhere that i am missing
Do you have park lights in the front?

I could give that harness a good home in my '89, whenever you have the time.. :)

should the front lights be working for the tail lights to work.
