my dad is running the Edelbroke triangle open element air filter on his 440 '66 belvedere. we had to cut a hole in the hood tho cuz we got a high rise manifold. but its a 440 b-body so not unexpected there...well anyways this is a good lookin filter and has a great design. sucks air straight down thro its foam element thats replacable and washable. goes into a mini funnel that forces air down the carb. works real well on outs. i think it was like 20 bucks for all of it, and like 14 for new elements. we had to just get one yesterday. ours backfired thro it. burnt a big ass hole thro it.

those things are notorious for catching on fire, i'd dump it and get a K&N before you burn your car to the ground

well its a 440 in a b-body for one. then we got a edelbroke performer rpm. and our carb. then with the air filter we have a hole in the hood fro clearence. were makin a scope tomorrow. if we put a regular filter in there we would have atleast a 16" wide circle in the hood, try covering that up. not easy with using a 440 6pak scoop

What happens is from backfiring or fuel slosh, the filter soaks up gas, then when you have a backfire with a flame, the filter catches on fire, and pieces of the foam fall into your intake. This can all happen while driving the vehicle and not even knowing it is happening. Just one day you pull the filter off and you see big chunks missing.

I agree, ditch it and get a different filter. You can get the small diameter round filters and housing, and maybe even stack two filters on top of each other, since you have a scoop anyway.

You can get round filters that are about the size of that one. I have seen little 9" filters, and probably smaller than that. Like same said, you can get and extra long stud and double stack them. K&N is the way to go though.
