I scored a cheap Performer intake. Everything looks great except that on the plenum divider someone ground out a notch about 1 inch long and about 1/8 inch deep. My question is "why"? Is this something I need to fix?

Nah it's ok to use man . Somebody just opened it up for more performance well more flow . it hould be ok to use that is just an old drag race3r trick to get more flow out of the manifold .

Along those lines, the notch allows the engine to "see" the entire plenum area, or at least more than it would without the notch. This improves high rpm performance by partially simulating a single plane intake. Being that it's a small notch, it doesn't interfere with the low rpm power inherent to the dual plane design.

Thanks for the replies. That's a cool trick. I wonder who first figured that out?
So what is the word on port matching the intake to my 360 heads? Is it worth the effort for a basically stock motor?
