Cut away some inner fender

After recently fighting with the plugs and wires on my BB with stock manifolds it seems maybe it would be easier to get some or all of that access from above the front tire area, in throught the inner fenderwell area. I dont want to remove them...just some of the inner most metal for access. Anybody done this and did you replace the area with something removable. Rubber or hinge the area or something?
