Motor vehicle Wood Gas Machine Auto part
Automotive tire Motor vehicle Wood Tool Gas

The dana 61 and most of that pile is ready for the sandblaster.
My head should be done this week, then the motor can proceed to be put back together with all the fancy new parts and a nice paint job. One more main thing is tranny and transfer case. Everything in me is telling me to bring it away so that i k ow its done right and not have to worry about a messed up home built tranny on my maiden voyage. Plus i dont have lots of time to deal with stuff like that on my maiden voyage cuz the plan is to drive either to Alaska or a roadtrip through the states with 2 buddies and a camper in the box in July. Itll be close to get it all done in time. Especially with spring coming up on the farm, will have very little time then for quite a while. And now its only few hours in the evening after a hard day in construction and saturdays. Anyways i shouldnt rant this much lol.

The idea of this beauty with 4x4 and a 12 valve always gives me motivation.
That is just like my first truck, which started life as a 3/4 ton 2wd, and later I converted it to a 4wd. You do not see many of that color combination with an orange cab top, most have the top white.

wow. Yeah with that much rust n crud I know I would opt to replace 'everything' and make it all as fresh as possible, including new kingpins - I had to do it to my D60 for similar reasons.

One thing about having a shop do work for you is they are on the hook if it doesn't turn out right. Granted if you do the 'installation' some shops might hold a grudge, but some don't, and that's the shop you want to use. Have the conversation about 'warranty' etc if you install it - get their re-work parameters, etc, and you'll be good to go. A good friend helped me build my tranny and I watched it go together, and I was happy to be watching and not needing to 'know' all the voodoo.

All ready for paint. Leaf springs as well. Ordered a whole kingpin kit from spicer and its ready to go in. Cant get the old ones out with the big impact, but havent tried heating them up yet. Made the tool out of a 7/8 bolt with a couple nuts on it and welded solid. Aint gonna spend 30 bucks on a 7/8 hex driver lol

Found the oring at another parts store. For next time, if anyone ever sees this and plans to get an oring kit by cummins, every single oring in the 89 to 91 vaccuum pump is a standard one from your local parts store for like 20 cents each. Theyre either fat, medium or skinny.

How do i tell if my locking hubs are still good?
Looks like your front axle already has later (91-93) internal locking hubs so they shouldn't have as many issues as the earlier external hubs, and there are many different choices for upgraded hubs if they are worn out.

Anyone used this kit for the tranny? Looks quality
No, but there’s no secret voodoo magic to trans parts. The clutches and steels are typically sourced from the same source in all kits (generally these Red Eagles) and the make or break is converter and (especially) valvebody.

Take them apart, clean and lightly lube them. Any broken parts will be obvious. They are very simple in operation.

What converter do you reccommend?
In my experience, unless you are planning heavy towing any rebuilt unit will be fine, especially if it is a lockup unit. I don't remember if your setup is a lockup or not...
