So basically Chevy is saying look we have a better interior (what they think was a better interior). I think Chevy set their own views a little too high back in the day! I’ll take a ramcharger with a 440 4 barrel please! Ramcharger has always been an all around better and meaner looking truck.

Good post.

They both have their pros and cons.
As does most. I’d say the biggest con of all is aftermarket support for ramcharger’s. I know most is interchangeable but some isn’t.

I hate Ford steering. Chevy makes decent engine's. My 355 saw 7500 rpm on a regular basis and it never blew up and it made stout power. Just saying. I still like Dodge best! 😎👍

I am quite partial to the 70's Dodge trucks too and also the newer trucks with a CTD. But, I also like the body styling of the 70's Fords, and currently own a 93 OBS crewcab dually 4x4 with a 460 (That is severely under powered by govt regulation) I got rid of a 79 Bronco about 9 years ago. I should have kept it. It needed a lot of parts but in general was good condition.

My dad bought his '79 F250 new and I liked it (except for the lousy steering noises). Ford's are built weird tho.

I had a 94 F150 4x4 with a 351 I loved. It had a weird tranny issue, and the scissor suspension was sagging. I traded it for a 2000 Maxima and bought the F350.

My dad had a 79 crewcab 2WD with a 390 granny low. Tough as nails but drank oil really bad.

I'm going to be honest.....I picked up and stored a 1973 K5 for a transporter as it took him a few months to come pick it up. The K5 was an old ranch truck but not too badly abused, the fit and finish was better than my 74 Ramcharger in about every way. The roll down rear window was NICE, the console even had built in seat belt latch holders. Personally, I think it's a wash as to which was a better buy when new back when you could get the options you wanted.

I will say that it would have saved me a bunch of money to build a K5 rather than a Ramcharger, but the Ramcharger gets insane amounts of attention when I drive it around, moreso than same era K5's.

I didn't see them mention that the Blazer had a transfer case MADE BY NEW PROCESS WHICH IS OWNED BY CHRYSLER/DODGE..

Bucky
WAS owned by chrysler.

I went to chebby because Dodge did not make a 4 door SUV. I left chebby because they kept breaking down, Trans, wiring, computers, RUST, RUST. and so on. Oh yea did I mention RUST. These were 8 to 10 year old trucks with severe rust issues. A 50,000 mile 6.2 diesel, snapping the input shaft of the 700R4, while cruising down the highway.

I have never had a Dodge that I could not get home. I had 3 Suburbans that needed towed home.

Seems that Chevy really played the 1-up game hard.

Not sure about 74 specifically, but I think its pretty cool that RC/TD could be had with a big block. Not aware that Chevy did that. Prefer the rugged 8-3/4" over the 12-bolt too. I do wish Dodge had offered the part-time tcase/axle and large bolt pattern through more of the 70's.

I had a Suburban too (84 3/4-ton) and really liked that truck configuration. Tailgates were a problem - barn doors for the win.

Yes, I always wanted one with the barn doors. Chebbys brilliant idea for the power tailgate window, - - the wiring ran down the drivers frame rail. Right at the rear, one can disconnect the wires, and jump one to get the window to go down. Real secure.

I forgot, I also had a fuel tank rust through at the sending unit well. That was another one that needed towed home.

Yes, NP WAS owned by Chrysler. My wording should have reflected that.

Yes Dodge dropped the ball in not having a 4 door SUV. Same as not have a crew cab LONG bed 4x4, nor offered part-time 4x4 75-79 (odd that only Mopar was this restricted and owned NP).

What is also ironic was little ol International Harvester DID offer 2 & 4 door SUVs.
