I'm looking into buying a set of axles to possibly go into Big Mo,still hinting around selling it but if I can't get enough $$ I'll just keep him,ah either way heres the question.

Found a set of axles,Chevy Dana 60front(4.56s open diff), 14 bolt rear(4.56s detroit locker) I know the 60 will go in the front with just pulling the springs in a little but would I have to do any other mods? Steering? Brakes? On the 14 bolt rear, will I have to move the spring pads? If so how much and what about brakes on this also. Thinking about doing disk brakes on the back like my buddy has done on his and I really like the idea. What size u-joints are in the stock d-shafts? Might have to get the bastard joints to mate one yoke to the other,I'm also going to put a 4" RCC lift on it,will I have to cut the rear d-shaft to get it to fit or not? Thanks for any help yall!

Ya I know they are Chevy parts, you can flame all you want just as long as you answer the questions :)

Didn't you just buy some gears for the 1/2 ton stuff? IHMO, the chevy axles are to much work. IIRC, you need new brake lines, D-shafts, U bolts/spring plates, and some relocation of the shocks.

For the front axle you will need: Dodge steering arm, re-do brake lines, shock mounts, and address U-joint using either bastard joint or changing either pinion yoke or drive shaft yoke. The 4" lift may allow you to use the stock length front drive shaft.

Rear axle: Brake lines (have to do anyway for disk brake conversion), possibly adjust spring perches (perfect time to make any needed pinion angle adjustments), and drive shaft (shorten) and U-joint. Great time to do a U-bolt flip and shock mount relocation.

U-bolt plates can be home made rather easily. One ton axles are SO worth the trouble. ;) Completely changes the ability of your truck to survive abuse when combined with reckless abandon! ;D

i totally agree with WyzGuy. one tons are worth the trouble. the most common joint for the 14b in the 1310. if you plan on abusing it go to the junk yard and find a yolk for a 1350 joint. if your sure the 14 is one ton and not 3/4 you might already have the right one. if you can be sure to get the top plate for the front u bolts. i had to make my own and i gave me fits. i made my own drag link too but that was easy just weld your top to a chibby lower. i doubt that either dshaft will work without modification mine werent even close. if you plan on locking the 14 go with detroit. they cost less than half of everybody elses and are twice as strong. it uses the orig. carrier instead of replacing it. how much are the axles costing you?

Ouch, sounds like a little to much work,I'm driving the truck right now and was hoping we could get it all put together in one weekend so I'd have something to drive the coming Monday, might have to keep looking for Dodge stuff. Feller was asking 1500 for the Dana 60 and 14 bolt. I wish I could find a set of 60s close from under a Dodge but can't seem to do that.
