It is popping back when you romp on it.. itles good & starts easy..just pops when you romp on it or put it in a strain.. Got a new set of plugs to put in tomorrow. gonna start there.. put a new vacuum advance on the distributer. The cap & roter is all good shape. what ya think?

Sounds like your accelerator pump. Either try adjusting it or rebuild your carb.

Think its the acc pump? if you just step on it with out it in gear.. it will rev up really easy & good... Changed plugs today... that helped a lil, but didn't fix it... Its a Quadrajunk so that prob says it all...

reving it up in neutral didn't prove that it is or isn't the accelerator pump. Backing firing is due to a lean condition. When you romp on the gas and it backfires its momentarily lean. The only job of the accelerator pump is to enrichen the mixture when you press down the accelerator. If the accelerator pump isn't adjusted properly or not working then it won't richen it enough and therefore you get backfiring.
