Howdy,
I went to replace my brake pads and have ended up having to replace the rotors & calipers too. I have disassembled the rotor/bearings from the spindle, have replaced the rotors, had my old hubs pressed into the new rotors then turned. I am getting ready to repack the bearings and reassemble the whole shebang. Any words of wisdom, advice before I get started?

btw..this is on an 85 RC

if you don't alraedy have one get a bearing packer. if you have a harbor freight nearby they are like 3 or 4 bucks. you don't have to have one but they make packing bearings a pleasurable experience.

Yeah, while you have the hub/rotor assy off, replace anything else that may need it. ie. ball joints, u-joints, etc.

Thanks. I packed the first bearings with my fingers. That is NO FUN. Takes forever. Is it good, once the bearings are in, to pack the hubs full of grease for safe measure?

Also, with the hub back on, how smoothly should I expect the rotor to turn? Once I torked down the spindle nuts, the turning isnt so smooth, but I torked them according to the specs. That normal?

i usualy put some grease on the splines in the hub and on the inside of the knob the make it turn easy. then on the o ring that seals the hub to the rotor just put a thin layer not too much. if after you torque the nuts down it should turn smooth not jerky. it might be a sign that your bearings are sloppy. when you cleaned them did they seem tight or sloppy?

with the tire off the ground grab the top and the bottom and wiggle it up and down. how much play is there? there should be very little.

going through all that already I would've bought new bearings just to be sure

the couple times I've done that the whell spun smooth afterwards, but seemed a little tighter than I expected

Make sure the brake pads are not rubbing even a tiny bit!, torque to factory spec's, they may seem a little tight....

Keep it all clean-and if the rotor is tight make sure you have the seal press in far enough but not too far. I torqued mine down the first time and I did not have the seal in far enough and it got smashed and had to replace it again. Ignorance on my part!!!
