I have a 86 w150 with a 5 inch BDS suspension lift in front and new 6 inch spring packs and a 1 inch block in the rear along with new shackles. I recently bought a Borgeson unit to replace the factory setup, however, I am having several problems. I had the option of getting the single u-joint unit with the typical rag joint at the end. However, I ordered the the unit with 2 u-joints and I am looking to eliminate the rag joint. I don't see how this could be done since I can't find a way to remove the rag joint from the steering column shaft. I have not yet attempted to take anything apart just yet. Do I need to use a different steering column? I'm sure there's a simple answer out there as somebody's probably done this before. I may want to install a body lift later on and I want to keep all of my options open. Also, I am not sure whether a single u-joint unit (part #940) will accomodate up to a 3 inch body lift.

and then what? How do I get a splined end for the 'female' end of the u-joint to go on? Also, how can I be sure I get the right length? Is there possibly a different year or model (w250, W350?) that I would be able to salvage the proper steering column from?
