Help!!!!I'm having major problems lining up my belts x3 on my new 360. The inside pully of my double pullied water pump lines up w/ the outside pully of my triple engine drive pully The alt double pully outside lines up w/ the inside most triple engine drive pully. I am thinking an offset pully for my water pump + shims under the alt or the mounting bracket will solve this?????????? Any ideaas??? The block(360) is 75, the w/pump is off 86 ,318 the trk is an 86 along w/ everthing else. need help motor heads

Well, you it'd be best to use the pulley sets, water pump, water pump pulleys, alternator and alternator pulleys and mounting brackets from one vehicle/model year... they'll typically line up.

Do you have a friendly local JY where you can go search for different ones?

Dude i am in the process of a 318 to 360 swap! I took all the pulleys and accessories off the front of the 318 and put it on the 360. Everything lined up great. No shims! No nothing! Thats the way i would go if you can!

Hey Rod I think my prioblem steems from the fact the two motors 18(1986) and the 60(1975) are seperated by 11 years. The pully problem was solved by using the original single pully off the w/p of the 360. I still have the alt. alighnment problem and feel if I had the alt . bracket from the 360 (I don't) I would'nt be having this problem. It's kinda a hit or miss thing at this point but I think I'll be makin a trip to the bone yard to try and locate an original alt bracket for that year

Ok i don't know the year separationon my motors just that the 318 came out of my 85 and the 360 came out of an 80 but wasn't original to the 80. My alternator runs a double pulley which lines up with my AC pumps double pulley which in turn lines up with the 2 inner pulley tracks on the 4 wide pulley on my harmonic balancer and if you didn't guess, i have two belts running these. The alternator and bracket off of both motors were identical so i could have used either.

Here's a quick tip, on the drivers side (i think??) just below the valve cover on the block there are a series of numbers the last 3 being the cubic in. On the pasenger side twrd's the front
just below the valve cover is a date of manufacture. I believe in having all the info I can get hope this will help you figure out which yr 360 you have

Since writting that Rod I figured my problem out. My problem lies in the differenence between the harnonic thickness the 18 being decidily thinner then the 60. In my case the fact that I dropped a/c and polution control allowed me to skip the w/p with the alt belt and add th w/p belt to the power stearing belt. The p/s belt will of course have to longer but given the size of this headache inititally I really don't care.

After about 78 or so the 318 and 360 have the same thickness damper. Before then the 360's damper was recessed to put it in the right spot for the pulleys. You need to go with the stock pulleys for your vehicle. There was some pulley changes when the Rotary A/C compressor came out in 79.
