Staying busy helps to keep PTSD at bay. My ex had a bout with PTSD after a serious car accident and I found keeping her busy with tasks helped her quite a bit. I tried not to let her mope around the house. She's totally fine now thankfully but it took a few years. I think your girl will pull through, it just takes a little time 👍

As some [moderated] just used this event to bait me in the controversial board, I just sat here and read this crap again. Thought I'd toss out a few updates because it's been a minute.

Medical: would healed up nicely, no long term health issues, big ass scar. I've been telling her it's sexy.

Financial: Hospital and trauma surgeon gave like 60% discount because no insurance. Full price would have been around $70k but discounts knocked it down to about $25k. Probably cheaper than actually having insurance but not going there. PA victims assistance people kept trying to engage us in getting the providers to respond to their request for documentation. No clue if anybody got paid and straight up don't care.

Jeep: idiot body shop didn't put the interior panel on right, took it back, still f'ed, might take a crack at it myself.

PTSD: still pretty bad. Within the last week I had to spend 20 minutes talking her out of the big planter she's building. Sounds of stray gun shots in the distance triggered her, she climbed in nearest cover available. Got fired from her job when she tried to hold them to the work accommodation she negotiated. Longer story, landed a better job. Still freaks out if I have to hit the brakes hard because traffic. It's wearing thin on both of us but counselors have provided effective tools.

Bird: doing just fine and recently started to fly.

felon boy: Bail dropped to $100k when homicide charge reduced to attempted. His sugar daddy / boy friend mortgaged property to spring him and my sources say they may have since split. Went right back to doing gay pay per view porn and one of my sources sent me a screen shot of him bragging about making bank. Criminal proceedings have stalled because when jumping from magisterial court to criminal court first step is a come to jesus meeting between the judge and the lawyers. This would be where the judge implores defense counsel not to clog up his docket with this crap. Keeps getting pushed back.

I've got names and addresses of the family members that drove from Youngstown for the first hearing. I've got the name, address, business address and a bunch of other info on sugar daddy. I've got a last known address for our young friend and as it's almost the one year anniversary, my offer to buy the first round still stands. Sitting in the hospital room, or shortly there after, I decided to make the trip every anniversary until satisfied. I expected to be visiting the prision but I'm not picky.

Forgot the other fun: she startles way too easy, jumps out of her skin, then cries for 10 minutes. I've resorted to flicking lights to announce myself. Ya know, like ya do with the deaf. May have to start carrying a flash light.

The struggle is real.

I've been having my own PTSD kinda day today. Just had her climb up because one of her birds was trying to kill me for paying too much attention to the other bird. She was already annoyed with me about jumping in the shower right before break and not being notified of my sarcasm when I said, sure I'll bring my naked dripping wet ass out there and fly the birds then went looking for pants. TBH, wouldn't be the first time I was naked in the back yard so maybe that one is on me. I'm just gonna try to be glad I didn't kill the freaking thing.

Just a thought, does, did she care for handguns before getting shot? Either way, maybe suggest taking her to a secluded range and letting her take that power back through firing the gun. Be very wary of the surroundings and make sure that you are the only on the range and watch her like a hawk. Start out with one round in the gun and then slowly as she progresses move up to more, this is for her protection and yours. If you are not comfortable with taking her shooting find a local firearms instructor, let them know what happened and what you would like to do, see what they recommend. If we were closer I could do it as early as this weekend. Start small, like with a .22 and then maybe move into something a little bigger if she takes to it well. No, you want get this recommendation for any psychologists in the country, because of it being gun related, but with any other type of trauma they all want the victims to take the power back that was taken from them.

I am continuing to pray for both of you and the birds, may you all have the strength that you need to make it through this.

Thanks for thoughtful and supportive note.

Before the shooting she was your basic middle of the road 2A supporter with liberal / millennial leanings. Supports things like stronger back ground checks, stop mass shooting by stop selling ARs. Immediately after the incident she very much wanted to carry but not before going through professional instruction. Likely a fairly common reaction and was short lived. The reality is that she admits to not being a good candidate for ownership. She doesn't trust herself to not leave it laying around loaded with the safety off and like that.

I think I might take a run at the "go to a range" part of your idea just for exposure therapy. The local hunting and gun ranges within earshot of the house didn't bother her before being shot but they damn sure do now. Being around responsible gun owners operating their guns responsibly could have some value.

So far the PTSD experience, for both of us, has been kinda like the Spanish Inquisition or random trash trucks around a blind corner. Ya never expect it, sometimes there's one there. The focus from the therapy folks has been on what to do next. Focus on not hitting the truck, don't quit driving and try to limit how many miles you spend cursing the trash truck for existing. For her it's take inventory of the environment and focus on the now. I do better with just ride it out until the bucking bronco gets tired and don't hate it for being a horse.

So we got up early to do a thing, I'm digging the fall colors from the passenger seat and then we traded paint with a trash truck. She reminded me that she was just cruising along digging the fall colors when got shot. Had to swap seats. On the upside, while validating the trash trucks right to exist and cursing felon boy I ran the shooting range idea past her and she's down.

I'm betting more than a few tries before I can get her out of the car so I'll settle for getting her in it and headed that way.

It is good that she is open to the idea of the going to the range. Just the exposure to the sound of the gunfire with no ill effects on her may give her a sense of safety that she hasn't had in a while. As a combat vet myself, coming back from theater and then exposing myself to the sounds of gunfire in a controlled setting was very liberating for me. I didn't believe in PTSD until I learned what it was first hand and now that I know, I wish that I didn't.

Like I said, a long way from getting her out of the car once I manage to get her to the range parking lot. I'm gonna have to go recon a couple places and figure out the low traffic times. The bit with the leaves is just gonna have to work itself out over time. Kinda exactly like working for Rockwell.

When I was about 10 or 12 a japanese family bought the house next door. No clue on citizenship status because 10 or 12 yrs old. Distinctly remember mom being worried about the old man. He took a life changing round in a suicide ambush on Saipan. I didn't really make the connection until recently and oddly enough they weren't in the neighborhood very long. I'm sure it's all a coincidence but thinking about it again make me wonder.

Until YOU learn how to deal with this, it will continue to consume your life. Please fix your self, then you can fix your girl. Despite what you think of me, I still think of you as a friend, and will keep praying that you survive this.

So here's a bit of fun we had recently. Hoped in her lady jeep, headed to the bird store, rolling the PA turnpike. Get up on a spot where the right lane becomes exit only so the car in that lane tries to merge in to us. She tries to merge in to car to our left, horns were hit, brakes were slammed, no paint was traded. Kinda exactly what happened the first time except nobody got shot. I didn't even see any birds flipped and we were in Philly. The next 10 minutes parked on the shoulder went well and she even stayed behind the wheel. A little distance from the anniversary (November) no doubt helps but proud of her none the less.

I'm beginning to learn that McCaws in general are very friendly birds. We had another laying on it's back. This one wasn't priced like a used parrot and we don't have the other enclosure built yet.

Yesterday was the fourth scheduled attempt at the pretrial conference since state criminal arraignment last April. It actually happened this time and the reasons for the continuances is obvious. Lawyer for felon boy was trying to cut a deal and I don't have the details but last offer was something like 7-12 years possibly on reduced charges. The state has been sticking to 8-15 as charged and no reason to be polite about any part of it.

Seems like a lot of billable hours to run up over 1-3 years but our boy not a noble prize candidate. For me, if that's the biggest argument they've got, I'm good. Some rumbling from defense vermin about digging up experts to support a mental health defense. After I stopped laughing I said lets go to the instant replay. I've never pretended to be a mental health expert in a courtroom but I could make a pretty good argument for him being nuts. On the dash cam, he damn sure sounds like he knows what he was doing when he grabbed the gun, loaded it, slowed down and aimed it.

Docket sheet as been updated to show pending trial date. aDA says May at the earliest and we have tickets to weirdness. More attempts at a deal pushing it back wouldn't surprise. I've never played a state prosecutor on a tv drama but my opening statement, witness evidence and closing statement would be about 3-5 minutes from the dash cam in total.

That's progress! Glad things are going well.

Absolutely - in the middle of the accident not happening I was cheering her on for dealing, not getting shot and getting the thing on the shoulder in an orderly manner.

I was recently thinking about this. Glad things are moving along. Hope his punk ass goes to prison sooner than later.
