OK-I tried doing a search with no luck-Some time back someone had brought this up and I am just curious if it really worked. I am getting ready to mount some used 38's on my RC and want to know if this worked or if anyone tried it and what they thought.

It was a thread I started when I first tried them, all I can say is it works great for me with no problems. Why dont ya try golf balls so you can tell me if it works? haha I used I think 24 oz per 37" tire....Im pretty sure less would suffice, if I did it again I would probably try about 12 oz and go from there.

*disclaimer* * I have very limited experience with this*

But I do have 'some' experience. First of all, I think the whole bb's damage tires, Golf balls fall apart stuff is like an urban legend. Everyone has a friend who says...

I will admit to having probably to many bb's in my tires. The ONLY time you hear them is when you come to a stop, and then only at the last second. They are gently falling from the top of tires at almost a complete stop. So I dont think there is anyway , anyF'nway, a golf ball or a wheel is going to get beat up.They are only falling from the top of the tire down, maybe a foot. They make no noise I can hear at takeoff or at speed.

And yes, I have broken the tires down after about 4000-5000 miles. (my odometer isnt correct) and the inside looked just as they did when new. My only thought is with bb's at extended highway miles they may retain more heat in the tire, but I dont really think so, you could also argue they would disperse it.

Now whos to say I didnt get incredibly lucky and my wheels and tires arent perfectly balanced anyway? Well, my answer to that is then the bb's didnt throw the balance off so they must work huh? :)

I was kiddin about the cannon balls.

Anyway I have some used 38's that I really don't want to have to add 300 pounds of lead to to balance them so I thought about the bb thing. I will try 12 or so ounces and see what that does. It will be a while I still don't have the engine in the RC let alone the drive shafts lengthened. But I do have the tires on the rims and have to air them up soon so I thought about just adding the bb's then.

there were pictures of a guy's wheels that he had golf balls in running in 44's. The wheels looked to have been hit repeatedly by a hammer, not very hard, but enought to see. They were steel wheels. I think this was on pirate4x4, but not sure. They said if they were aluminum wheels it would be worse.

But I don't know, I don't try to balance big tires since they go on my trail rig anyways, so I don't have these issues :)

When I was running 40" ground hawgs on the street, I bought the rim/tire package from National tire and wheel, they came balanced already and they drove very very good on the street, even at high speeds.

I wonder if rubber balls would work. People have said the golf balls pound the hell out of the wheels, or they eventually just break apart. Maybe some solid rubber balls?
It's funny you mentioned that because I was thinking about it last night. I never heard of anyone using rubber balls.

I am thinking of trying this out on my big meats when I get them, hopefully on Wed. I still need to choose some rims. Not many choices in 14 inches wide for 16.5 inch rims.

My tire width is 15 inches right now. I plan on stepping up in size when my used tires finally wear out. I have added hydraulic assist so I should be fine. When I buy new tires I will have them properly balanced but with old used tires I was hoping this might work.

Sure there are, I had 16.5x14 on my 40x17 ground hawgs. National Tire and Wheel has the wheels, and they aren't priced bad either.

Sorry ramit, I am trying not to hijack your post...
I ended up purchasing some 16.5x12 Eagle Alloy 589's. Hopefully I am happy with them. I'll mount them myself since we have a tire machine at home. Still waiting on my rubber and lift. Sucks living so far from the US.
I'll try out the rubber bouncy ball theory, but the tire guy said to run them unbalanced for a while first to warm them up or something... ???

Well, I've been running bb's in my tires for about 5 months now, and I love it. I have roughly 1800 bb's in each tire (21 oz).

I haven't had them off to see tho......if there is any damage inside.
