I've done the basic work on my 2wd ramcharger. (Not driving yet.) Used a D250 to donate everything.

I did a nv4500 conversion. Are we talking about a g360 or g56?
I have the auto in the cummins, not sure what the call numbers are, I am guessing the g360 is the getrag, so probably the G56? Whoa- they are way more expensive than the getrag! Probably going with the G360- though I now am seeing prices all over the place for both- 1500 and up.

The trans tunnel may be small/low on a 2wd auto truck. Some floor surgery is definitely required. Probably cleanest to cut the tunnel out of a manual trans or 4wd truck and graft it in.

You also need the clutch hydraulic pedal & master stuff from a 88-93 truck.

Sorry, I may have not been specific enough- I am using a titled 72 4whl drive 4 speed truck cab. I am thinking the tunnel and the pedals will be my only easy part LOL.

I am heavy into the "research stage" of this swap. It seems a new auto rebuilt auto and swapping in a getrag or NV if I can find second hand at right price may be about the same price.

Well, the hydraulic setup needs a specific bracket under the dash that the master twist-locks into (and corresponding firewall hole). May have to move the wiring connector.

Is the chassis also 72 and 4x4? or has it been swapped along with the engine?

I have a 92 Gasser 1 ton frame, a 72 Body going on to that, A 92 CTD (4 whl drive, auto) and a dually suspension. So a franken-build, kinda known for it really LOL. Oh, and it's a home made flat bed.

Where I'm going is the trans crossmembers are different heights for the 6" vs the 7 and 8" frames.

I'm still not clear if this a 4wd or 2WD truck being built...

Whatever gearbox you decide on, the bell housing and engine adapter have to be matched. If you get your trans from a salvage, it would be most ideal those two items come from the same unit.

Or you wind up like me who had to take extra steps in taking runout readings along the bellhousing output bore (where gearbox mounts) to make sure the engine adapter I used would concentrically mount the bellhousing where it should be. Or you will have a bad time. First I had a adapter from ebay advertised for NV4500 and was waay out on my readings. I had to buy a brand new adapter referencing the p/n to the bellhousing then my readings came out correct.

This is great info, thanks!

It's a 4 wheel with the 8inch frame
The other matter is getting your tcase to fit the manual. It needs to be 29 spline. The auto is 23.

This was a question I was going to ask based on my jeep swaps as well and spline issues. IIRC< crossmember mounts to the Tcase correct? Can you switch the 23 spline to a 29 spline with a simple gear change? What model number is the Tcase?

The crossmember goes under the back of the transmission.

The np205 tcase needs machining for the bigger input. Finding the bigger input is difficult.... There's some custom aftermarket stuff, and maybe spline adapters. Not sure what you can get where.

^ That comes with a dodge/cummins bellhousing?

There's the v8 nv4500s also (23-spline)... and buy the rest of the stuff to bolt it up.

Edit: I dunno how strong the smaller 23-spline is. More potential for shock loading with a manual.

They are available as a complete Cummins swap, rated for 600 ft lbs. The picture above is with a 6bt bellhousing.
