I have a 83' RC that still has a little play in the wheel after replacing the shaft, it's managable for me but the wife has troubles with it so I have to fix it. Could someone give me some help on the proper way to adjust it? Thanks
there is a adjusting screw with a flat head slot and a lock nut on the top of manual steering boxes. you loosen the lock nut, and turn the screw untill the play is gone. hold the screw in place and tighten the lock nut. do not turn the screw anymore than you have to in order to take out the slop. over tightening will make steering a hassle and wear the box out in a hurry. as far as power steering i have no clue. anyone know? David
Before you make any adjustments to the steering box inspect all your linkages, Ball joints, and wheel bearings. All of these will make the steering seem loose.
The same adjuster is on the power steering box too. I wouldn't go anymore then a quarter turn. If you go too tight the truck ( front wheels) won't self center after a turn.
