My AC in the 88 RC was cool but not cold. I had the same prob with my 84 5th Avenue and a new expansion valve cured it. I put a new expansion valve on the 88 RC, evacuated the system, let it set to see if it held for 10 minutes, all is ok. It is switched over to R 134. Put in a can of oil charge, then the first can of 134-compressor started running for short cycles. 2nd can of 134-compressor ran longer cycles. 3rd can of 134-compressor ran longer cycles. I put in a forth can and it ran and got very cold in the RC. On the way from the shop to home 5 miles +/- it stopped being very cold to almost cold. When I got home I looked and the pipe into the expansion valve was frosted over pretty heavy. What happened to my "very cold" and why the heavy frost?
