Autozone has a set of tools in their loan-a-tool program that makes taking that fan off much easier. I can't remember the deposit but you get it all back when you return the tools.

It requires a special tool. Most parts stores should rent these out. Its simply called a Fan Clutch Tool. Has big flat wrech to loosen with and another tool to keep the pulley from spinning.
hell i used a crescent wrench for the nut and a screwdriver as a holdback. works fine if the pump is still on the engine
well i got it off, thanks steveo for the email, wasnt sure which way it turned. i broke 2 screw drivers and bent a small bar while it was still on the motor. so i got pissed and pulled the pump off with the fan still on it. ended up cuting the pulley off the pump and using my BIG channel locks to hold where the pulley mount and the other one on the nut, bang finally came loose. that was a pain, what was wrong with the old style of the 4 bolts hold the fan and pulley on? lol tom
Sounds like the way I go about doing mech work. :)
