This all depends on if you want fuel injection or carb? Forget the TBI that you have now. You don't need an adapter plate for the transmission. If you go with fuel injection your trans bellhousing will have to be modified slightly for a crank sensor. I could go on on with what you need to do but i'll save it for when i know what induction your going to use.

I was thinking about dropping a 5.9 out of a 98 ram. i want to leave the complete engine setup.....ie the mpi, and just wire in the new module to run everything. i am just not sure that mechaniclly everything will fit. i was told that the flexplate and the tourqe converter are weighted and will have to be modified or changed.

Well, I just finished the same swap.
I dropped a '94 Magnum 360 into my '85 Ramcharger. Complete minus the EFI setup, but all accessories! (Its beautiful!)
The EFI would be to time consuming to make work on the older vehicles. I swapped it for a MP dual plane intake manifold and carb.
As far as if it will fit, the answer is you have to do a bit of cutting.
The power steering pump hits the driver side frame rail.
Other things to change:
FLEXPLATE: Forget the stock one. Won't fit anything but a late model lockup converter; go with the B&M SFI flexplate for the late model 360 magnums. Cut the weights off your torque converter if you plan to reuse the old one, or get a unweighted converter if you change it.
AC: If you can rob the hoses of the donor vehicle you can problem get new compressor to work.
EXHAUST: The Magnum exhaust manifold are much better than the older LA manifolds, but the exhaust exits from the rear instead of the middle. Magnum and LA headers are pretty much the same of you want headers.
IGNITION: If you go with a intake and carb, you will need a older distributor with vacuum advance.
I have pictures of the install. Email me if you are interested.

Its better to use a 92-95 magnum engine because they dont' have the OBD II emissions. 96 and later require an oxygen senser behind that catalytic converter. Torque converter pattern changed in 96 i believe. Would need a fuel pump with more psi or basically one out of a 92-93 pickup.

if you're dead set on EFI, use the 93-95 5.9 pcm and a 92-95 engine wiring harness from any MPFI V8. the harnesses are the same, but ya need the 5.9 pcm to get the right fuel delivery.

yeah, the 5.2 and 5.9 harnesses are the same, as long as they're for the MPFI setup and they're of the 92-95 vintage. the TBI and diesel have their own unique harnesses.

as far as manual/automatic setup, i'm not too sure. if i was shopping for one, i'd get the automatic harness, just because it's easier to not use a plug than to splice one in. do you have a manual or automatic pcm?

i've been all over this through the past months. i just finished dropping a 5.9 out of a 2000 durango into my 92 that came with a 5.2 magnum. came out great. no annoying lights at all ;D

ok. for your swap, i'd find a wrecked 93-95 with a 360 and get as many parts off it as possible. the automatic harness should work. i'll look into the pcm issue for ya when i get back to school on monday, but i'm pretty sure you can use the automatic pcm in a manual truck. you'll just get a code 37 (TCC clutch circut, doesn't light the check engine light).

like 300le said, you'll have to cut out the bellhousing for the sensor, and you'll need the right flywheel for the engine (balance issue and crank sensor stuff)

I already have a '93 Mopar Perf PCM for a manual tranny. I think all I need is well besides the engine, the wiring harness and flywheel. I planned on getting a '93-'95 'cause I know they took away EGR and changed some other stuff with the computer in '96.
