Well your not going to like that sender that the dealer parts department has. I have gone through the same thing your going through, with my 86 RC / 35 gallon tank. First of its a PITA getting the tank up and down, to change that sender pick-up. Second the thing just is not a drop in and hook up procedure and drive to the gas station. That sender arm and tube needs tweeking just so by some half baked crapping procedure with 8 gallons left into the bottom of the tank and that gets you your reserve. Don't even expect that the thing will give you even close to what you had for tank indications verses fuel consumption from the broken fuel pick-up sender. You have to have the wires to the same orientaion as when one you removed them. Prior to installation you also need to check that the resistance accross the two terminals is at 12 ohms with the float UP and 78 with the float DOWN. If not close to this bend the little stops to get on the money this will allow the needle to be either in the full up "F" when full or full "E" when the tank is empty. The orignal part number from the factory is not available any more and you have to use an up-graded superseeded part number: 1-04075382. All I know is that this whole topic pisses me off. No I'm not a certificed mechanic that does this for a living, but no simpleton either, the new up-graded part number is not manufactured properly, period.
