More info---

Does it turn over (starter engaging?)

Do you have spark?

What ignition system? (lean-burn, std electronic, aftermarket?)

Is it getting fuel? (Look down the carb throat, move throttle linkange from idle through WOT...you should see two solid streams of gas shoot down through the carb)

The motor rolls when I try to bypass the key and do the starter trick under the hood.

But the starter does not engage with the key?

Have you tried starting in Neutral (or any other gear?)--make sure you are clear in fron and behind your rig if you try to start in and forward or reverese gear.

Basically the same test as above--Try grounding the neutral safety switch wire to the starter relay (brown wire by itself on the relay IIRC). If it starts (or tries to start) in neutral or any other gear, the NSS needs adjustment. If it starts with the NSS terminal on the starter relay grounded, your NSS is faulty.

If neither of those tests get you going, we can look deeper.
