Howdy all got a question I got a chance to buy a 3/4 ton pu with dana 60 full floater and a 44 front both are 8 lug is the 44 8 lug a stonger unit then the 5 lug 1/2 ton? I am thinking of putting them under my 79 rc to do away with the crapp wheel bearings any help would be great.

The dana 44 axle isn't any tougher, but the bearings and hub design are stronger on the 8 lug over the 5 lug. So i say go for it if the price is right.

What's the difference in the hub/bearing design? And the calipers are bigger, right?

Thanks,
Ted

He has a fulltime dana 44 and they are supposed to have a terrible front bearing design and he's planning on swapping in a part time dana 44 which has a better design.

Should have a CAD. I saw a 86 3/4 ton truck with CAD on it.

I test drove a 88 with lock outs on it. 3/4 and 1 tons during the 80's should of come with a 205 transfer case which requires lock out hubs.

Ahh...I didn't read completely. I was comparing apples to oranges. I was thinking D44 part time compared to D44HD part time. Now I see the error of my ways. ;D

Note to self: Read post thoroughly!!!

Thanks RAMMAN4 :)

my 85 3/4 ton has a CAD 44 with a 208 t-case. I understand there are some 3/4's witha Dana 60 front and the 205, but I don't recall ever seeing one. But all the 1 tons I've seen had the 60 (with manual hubs) and 205.

85 was the first year of the CAD, so 81 to 84 are a different story.
