I don't believe it can be done. I tried to put an 85 wheel on my 75. Not only does the newer wheel have an indexing spline (easily removed), but the splines are different, not so easy to fix. They are so close that it is nearly impossible to tell by looking, but when you try to put the wheel on, it just won't go. Macario has what looks like an 80's steering wheel (looks identical to an early 80's L body wheel) on his 76 RC, maybe he knows a trick?
