i had a 79 GT 12yrs ago. it was white w/red int. and the rare
GT stripes. 318, auto, 3.21SG. couldn't get the lean burn
to work right and i was just getting into mechanics so i
couldn't figure it out.
i traded it to a friend for some wood work. the thing is in the
JY now, still. i look at it every time i go there and just cry
from my stupidity.
the only thing that didn't work were the headlight covers.

In 78 dodge only made 500 Gt's it was the last body in nascar until now, and what makes it 1 of 1 is you won't find another like it, this car came with spoilers and wheel flares which i took off because of it got to much attention
you do know they made 861 GT's in 78, right. the wheel flares were part of the A75-GT package, but they could also be deleted if you wanted. as for rear spoiler this wasn't a Chrysler option. the only ones that have been found were on Magnum Force cars, which were a regional promotion, and a couple aftermarket co's that produced them in the 80's. if your rear spoiler has a Chrysler part # i'd love to see it.

is it an early production car? did it have the GT wheels? if so, the early production cars (first 3-5months) have a GT decal on the center cap, after that they are chrome like the rest of cap.
as for 79 #'s 1674. been doing alot of research myself cuz i would like to get another and wanted to see what my search is going to be like with certain options. i talked to another guy on another site who knows ALOT about these cars. he has a 78 big block, T-Top car, w/most options, except a floor console, column shift car, weird. actually, i'd like to find an XE w/GT wheels and flares, T-Tops, and big block now that would be cool. myself, i think it was a bad idea turning yours into a race car, hopefully it can all be changed back to stock esp. if you have legitamate paperwork w/stuff it had.
take a piece of history back to stock. ..palease.

that guy i talked too, says that the NJ area had a very high volume of magnums in general. another reason, for some of the regional items like magnum force, magnum 44 and such.
if you ever see any for sale(magnums) give me a jingle, the only thing is it has to have t-tops and floor shift.

hey marty, i just got an original 78 magnum sales brochure.
funny thing is they don't mention the letters "GT" anywhere. it's refered to as a "magnum gran touring" car. you'd never know it was upscale decor package(well, for 78 standards). i'm really surprised not more were built. weird!!
