I'm redoing the doors off of a 77 dodge to use on the 76'. I am completely tearing them down and cleaning, sanding and repinting every thing. The problem is, I can't get the windows out. My Chilton's says there is screws on the lift channel, but I can't find any. So, how do I the glass out with out breaking them or the mechanisms?

you need to pull out the vent wing window and channel and weatherstripping, word of warning this is a major PIA.

i have managed it without removing these and it is almost a bigger pain that way.

the one way i have had good luck is to slide window off of lift rollers, being careful not to drop window and break it, then turn the window so it is kind of angled in the door, then lift and slide towards inside of truck.

i have never foiund a really easy way to do this, and from most of what i have heard, neither has any one else.

eric

ps: be very careful removing weatherstripping, it is $76 bucks apiece from the dealer, also the little fuzzy weatherstrip at the base of window opening is $35 a piece

how do I get the window off the lift rollers, how do I remove the vent window, and I am quite aware that it's a PIA, cause I already dinked around with it for two hours. I don't need to worry about the seals since I'm getting new ones, minus vent windows, cause I don't want the old crappy cracked ones on my rebuilt truck.

send me your email and i will send you the files out of my FSM. makes it a bit clearer than a chiltons.

it is a pain to get it off of rollers, i found that if you have the window aobut half way up, then the rollers are really close to the ends of the channels they ride in, the it is a matter of sliding window forward to get it off of the one roller and back to get it off of other roller

another how too in the works

remove the door panels

at the front of the door about 1/2 way to the top there is a screw. unscrew it. on the lower end of the door panel closer to the front there is a bolt. unbolt it. use a flat screwdriver or a spoon an remove the felt stripping in the window channel of the door(the bottom part) grab the passport window by the side about 1/2 between the length. pull to the rear and down. when it comes out of its fitting ( the bracket an window together) pull up and out of the door. did i mention the window should be down for this?

now that thats out slide the window sideways to the front of the door. pull it up and out of the top of the door.

reverse to reassemble

thanks for the help. Once I figure out how to do it on the first one, I'll take some pictures while doing the second one so I can make a how to.
