I have a set of stock shoulder belts in my 77 TD. The shoulder belt is seperate from the lap belt and uses a funky latch to connect with. I'll try and get some pictures.

I gotta ask WHY???? if it dont have em, enjoy your freedoms and the grandfather clause ya very few 70's trucks came with em I believe it was some kind of option, but it was before the government decided to keep you safe from yourself

Good question, but the quick answer at least for me is that I intend to walk away from a major, end-over-end high speed roll-over if and when I have one.

Seat belts make surviving a little more likely than if you are bouncing around inside the cab, or get flung clear of the wreckage and into oncoming traffic.

I've dusted myself off after one before and wore a lap/shoulder belt, and I have a nephew that died because he didn't wear a seat belt and rolled his rig.

It just makes sense.

Just an idea...why not get some newer seats, out of a newer Dodge Quad Cab truck? Old style, like 99-01 or so...they had the high back seats with the shoulder harness built into the seat...that would work well for your application, I would think...

I haven't seen any RCs or TDs with shoulder belts in the '70s, but I have a few '70s pickups with shoulder belts...

My main driver '76, built 12/5/75, has lap belts only
my other driver '76 big block shortbed, built 7/16/76, has shoulder belts
my parts truck in the back yard, '78, has shoulder belts
my dads M880 military truck '77, has shoulder belts...

Must've been an option for a few years? At least in '76? Or maybe a mid-year intro?

If you are worried about a roll over..get 5 way harnessess....much safer, and tons more comfortable than the 2" belts you are looking for.

Also might want to get a real roll bar.

There are many degrees of protection, and while I am concerned about a rollover, I am also concerned about maintaining the stock aspect of my Mopar as much as possible. Kind of a trade-off you might say.

What you are suggesting concerning a 5 way harness is a good idea, however, it would disturb that stock aspect.

I do have the factory roll bar, and that is good protection while maintaining the stock look that I want.

The point of my post was to address the question of "WHY". As to "HOW", that is up to each of us to decide. 8)

shoulder belts were an option in the 74-79 rc/td's due to the removable top. if oyu look on the inside of the top where a shoulder belt is to mount you will find normally a plug inserted there if it hasnt been removed.

if ouy are concerned about the safety of the rc/td's then i agree with TRCM, get a real roll bar/cage and install 5 point harnesses

if oyu are worried about stock appearing then it wont matter if oyu have them or not as it could have been either way from factory

I know my 73 crew cab has the plugs there to mount the shoulder belts and the FSM shows them as an option. How would I go about removing that plug because I definitly wanna run shoulder belts.
