I couldn't find anything on this in the how to section. is all thats involved in changing the filter in a 727 tranny, pulling the pan to drain the fluid, changing the filter, replacing the gasket and bolting it back up?

Yes, and it's a good idea to adjust the bands while you are down there. Also, check to see if the torque converter has a drain plug, so you can drain it, too.

If there is no drain plug on the converter there is a way to refill it.

Go to the www.amsoil.com (even if you don't use their oil) -- they explain how to pump the old fluid out and replace it.

It can be a bit messy but I use clear plastic bottles I mark in pints so I can measure the exact amount that comes out.

Years ago I installed an oversized oil pan with a drain plug, but the plug won't come all the way out because exhaust cross over pipe is in the way. I can loosen it and let most of the fluid out but it takes some time.

I never put in a shift kit because with my luck I might mess something up.

Thinking about the pan reminded me that I need more fluid than the recommended amount because of the larger pan.
