depending on whether you have emmissions testing.....

what ED-3 suggested is great, but if you are on a budget, check out the holley 3310, its a duel inlet 750cfm and is cheaper in price. A refurbished one from holley (if you want, just give me an email and i will look up the actual part number to order from summit) is 189 i think, or a brand new one at 250. Plus summit will want their 9 dollar "handling"charge.

We're not all rich like Marty is. A good Holley or Edelbrock will work just fine. I have a 600CFM Edelbrock on mine and it works great.

I replaced my worn out Tquad with a new Edelbrock (about $500). I also have a 440 and although the Eddy was pricey, I am real happy with it. BTW, I still have the old Tquad and aircleaner in a box if anybody is interested.

Are you guy's all living with ostriches with your heads in the ground and never look at prices?

A 750 VS Speed Demon is $400, it is the best carb, a better carb would be KD, RD7, RD and MD carbs all from barry grant, but those are more expensive and without chokes, but is the best performance your goal or just putting around, i don't putt around.

You want putt around answers, then ignore mine.

normally i agree with you ED3, but...

Depending on your budget their is a huge difference between 250 and 400 bucks. And the 750 holley is no slouch...

the 1406 is a fine carb. I use it on the cordoba. i just dont know if it is up to a 440. According to my carb book, it isnt. suppose to have at least a 650 or 700.
But, as i said, the 1406 is a great carb, gets good gas mileage, nice starts.....
Just dont think it has the CFM for that size engine though.

CFM don't matter much if you got the carb set up right. I would match up my RC in a 0-60 drag or quarter mile with any other stock rig and I would win. I don't do any off roading so maybe you are right when that sort of use comes into play. I will defer to the off roaders on this.

thats a very good point. I dont do much off roading, and minimal towing, but i have large A/T tires on the truck which might make a difference in mine. i noticed a huge difference between the 600 and 750holley on it. But in the cordoba, with the 360 engine, the 600 cfm edelbrock, it will eat those rice burners for breakfast!

I think all things being equal and assuming that everything else on the vehicle is working like is should, the performance might be better with a higher CFM, but it is more important to have that fuel/air mixture set up as perfect as you can get it that is why I always recommend consulting with a reputable speed shop to get the right jets for your area. I think they are usually set up for sea level, but for example here in Albuquerque we are at around 5,000 ft so we have to jet differently.

If you idle around the woods, a stock BIGBLOCK tquad is the way to go...they can be had for almost nothing, flow over 1,000 CFM in stock form, can be jetted, and are spreadboard. I had one done up...just make sure you get one that the adjustment screws are not froze into the body and that you rebuild it with brass floats.

I had a tquad and a 750 holley...my tquad was much better in performance than the 750 holley and gave me 17 mpg in a auto/3.23/440 RC. It would start in any temperature and I could idle through the woods all day long.
