The guy who did the rebuild on my 76 RC 440 jury-rigged the brackets/mounting of my power steering pump. That was okay for awhile. However, there was no way to adjust the belt tension without the fan blades hitting the power steering pump shaft. Thinking that I had found a set of original mounting brackets, I took the whole thing apart.

After wrestling with it for hours, I can't seem to get the power steering pump mounted again no matter what combination of brackets and swear words I use! Does anybody have any pictures/diagrams of the proper bracket combination and bracket mounting (to the pump and to the block) for a 440?

I sure would appreciate any help I can get.

Macario,

Thanks for the quick response. Looking at the pictures you posted, it looks like I may be missing some pieces. It looks like there are at least three brackets and an adjusting idler required to mount the pump. I have the original front and rear pump brackets but am not sure about the bracket that mounts to the block. Also looks like I'm missing the mounting tab (on the block) for the top bolt of the rear bracket. Is there another bracket that mounts to the front of the block (using the straight through hole or water pump bolts?

Thanks,

John G.

Oh, then what do the front and rear pump brackets attach to? Are they bolted directly to the block (using the waterpump bolts)? From your pictures it looks like the front pump bracket is bolted to another bracket (can't see the whole thing, just the edge. Also looks like the back rear pump bracket bolts to some sort of tab on thew block? How are the front and rear brackets attached to the engine block?

As I recall, none of the pump bolts go to the block. The two top ones attach to the A/C mount bracket, and the bottom one has a captured nut on the rear face. If you don't have A/C, Mac's picture may not work for you.

Man that is one sweeeet looking motor!

You are right, I don't have AC in my RC.Looks like there is another bracket located between the power steering pump and the top pulley (rectangular bracket in your picture). That is the part I am missing. I don't have anything to bolt the front or rear power steering pump brackets to. Where can I get one of those rascals and how is it mounted?

BTW, thanks for the picture. It just confirms that I am missing pieces.

hey man i'm in the same boat. the donor for my 440 was a 74 newport or some other big boat and they had to use the brakets out of it. needless to say none fit right.

try theses guys for your brakets, when i get the coin i will be calling them. got my oil pan, pickup, dipstick tube and motor mounts from them, all good quality, fair price.
