So I got my 383 a couple of days ago and I'm wondering if anybody is knowledgeable about the block numbers. I have a block casting number of 2128854 - 5 on each side of the block, and a stamped number (near distributor on pad) of
SC - 2
10714C
It has a casting date of 1967. Anybody got any info on this block? Thanks.

This is a tuff one..here's something close that I came up with but it does not jive with the 1967 build date but maybe the engine block was a holdover from a previous year and the complete motor was only built in 67?
2128854-6... 383 CI 6.3 LITRE, YEAR 1962-1964 BORE 4.2500 S38,T38,V38...don't know what these codes are...maybe engine or car model codes? Did you just get the block or do you have heads or intake with casting numbers?

That's a puzzler. The book I have says that there is also a serial number "on the very bottom of the engine next to the oil pan flange." Do you know what vehicle it came from? Any info available from the engine supplier?

Any other markings on it?

Markings on the bottom rail on B and RB blocks didnt start until 1968. This block is definately 1967 though. I guess as long as its a 383 (and it is) it doesnt really matter very much...any of the other things like hp engines etc really refer to things like the cam, pistons, etc. I think all the 383 blocks were the same.

The only thing I could find was that the 67' was rated at 280hp, had a Carter AFB 4bbl and a 256 - 260 duration .430 lift cam in the A-Body cars. Block casting info doesn't seem to start until 1968.
