I blew a few gaskets in my underpowerd 318. I think i might get a 360 crate from jegs. My second gear is out so i think i am going to get a BandM tranny. What else do i need to get inorder to get it running; carb, alternator etc.. I am putting this in a 85 rc with a 318 and a NV4500 4-speed.
any help or sujestions would be appreciated

PS if you have a 440 you are trying to unload for cheap, bigger is always better

i thought the 4500 was a 5speed? anyway, as far as the power steering and alternators and what not, the ones from the 318 should work. as for a carb, go with whatever is recommended, or get an aftermarket efi system.

The alternator bracket and AC brackets are different and will have to be modified. The power steering bracket is the same. You might "accidently" lose your smog pump or you would have to rig it up somehow. The fuel system on the magnum motors is FI so you would either have to rig up an eletric fuel pump, or take the timing cover case from your old 318 and transfer it over if you wanted to use an manual fuel pump. Don't forget to put the lobe on though.

you have a NP 435 transmission, not a NV4500. The 4500 didnt' come out till around 92 and is a 5 spd. The crate engines are magnum but set up for carb. You could use it, make sure you get the 300 hp version and not the 380. You will be very unhappy with the torque band of the 380 in your truck. The 380 is capable of 12 second 1/4 mile times in a Dart or Duster. The brackets will have to be slightly modified but not sure how much.

Good. It should be pretty easy to mess with. When we put my 360 magnum in the alternator bracket had to be shortened. It stuck out too far from the block and wouldn't bolt up near the water pump. We modified it and it bolted up nice and fine. The only problem I encountered is that the alternator would hit the block on full compression. I ended up getting the alternator bracket for the 100 amp alternator which moved the alternator outside the block and allowed for a lot more adjustment. I also had to make my own AC compressor brackets when I put that 100 amp alternator bracket on. It was worth it though.

The MP Magnum Crate motors do have the mount for a mechanical fuel pump, so a electric isn't necessary. But, Magnums from production vehicles do not.

I could have sworn the mag crate motors use the old chain cover and just have a block off, hey you know they have a stroker version out also M96R, and i believe the 5.7H is also ready now, or maybe next month

I think they have 2 stroker versions out now.

with some of the quality control i'd get one. Port have not been polished. Some bolts only finger tight. Well the choice is up to you.

All the mag crates are/were built on the same assy line as the production motors, albeit "hecho en mexico", but I believe (could be wrong) most of Ma`s engines are built south `o` the border nowadays, at least all the 420a short blocks I`ve put in @ work were. So bottom line is, a Magnum long block assy (crate motor) has/should have no worse durabilty issues than a new truck off the showroom floor. Alot of the horror stories you`ll hear stem from the Mopar perf shortblocks wich are/were remanned by Cummins, a totally different animal.
